Pupil voice and lived experience are front and centre of the whole school approach to wellbeing at Bryn Tirion Hall School.

Wellbeing embedded
across the curriculum

Pupil wellbeing is at the heart of the planning and delivery of the rich curriculum at Bryn Tirion Hall School. All pupils benefit from outdoor learning and a rigorous PSHE program. In upper school, they work towards qualifications with real world market value. Various academic, vocational and work based pathways are designed to help pupils achieve their aspirations, providing the tools and skills needed in order to feel empowered about their futures. Lower school has embraced the new Successful Futures Welsh curriculum and involves rich lived experiences, trips and events to contextualise learning and nurture psychological wellbeing.

Pupil Voice

Pupil voice is at the heart of everything at Bryn Tirion Hall School. Feedback from pupil surveys, reviews and general conversation is used to inform the planning of all aspects of school life.  Pupil Leaders work closely with staff to guide and influence the day-to-day running of the school.

Connect before correct

The underlying ethos of the approach to learning, support and guidance is based on strong relationships between staff and pupils. All staff recognise that learning will only occur once a pupil feels safe, connected and regulated. The rigorous program of the continued professional development of the staff team, including courses about trauma awareness, Mental Health First Aid and Attachment, provide staff with the skills, knowledge and understanding to help pupils to thrive.

Staff and pupil wellbeing: two sides of the same coin

Staff wellbeing is essential to the wellbeing of pupils. There are a range of initiatives and mechanisms in place at Bryn Tirion Hall School designed to support and strengthen staff wellbeing. This includes a rigorous and extensive program of continuous professional development, ranging from training about additional learning needs to waterside safety qualifications. Regular surveys provide opportunities to evaluate wellbeing to identify what can be done to further improve the Bryn Tirion Hall School offer to its staff. There is also an emphasis on strong working relationships, underpinned by communication and collaboration.

“I can’t believe the change in my child. He used to hate going to school, now he loves it.”
